Garda Lake

After one week in Austria, we headed to Italy. We encountered some incredible traffic...but it was even worse on the other side! I am sure the people there had to wait probably six hours...there was a serious accident, so everything was blocked and there was no possible way off the highway. I don't know what caused the problems on our side, but I think our drive was supposed to take 3 hours and it took over 5. Once we came out of the miles of still-stand, we were in desperate search of a toilet. When we finally found one, so had everyone else!!!!! Unbelievable how many car/people were at that gas station. I am sure they never had such good business. Oh, and did I mention the heat? I felt bad for the people who had to turn off their cars...I know why most were sitting under the trees on the side of the road. I think it got up to 40 degrees while we were sitting there. Thankfully our car has AC!
The plan was to check in our hotel, then go to Lake Garda, but we were worn out, so we slept first and then headed to the lake. The lake is huge...much larger than expected. we wanted to go swimming, but so did everyone else...we were not able to find a good spot and in the end decided that it was a pretty lake, but not an ideal spot. Many of the good places were owned by the hotels...we thought they wouldn't notice if we were just sitting in the area, but they did and they asked us to leave.
Italy is gorgeous! We had a traditional meal of pizza and seafood pasta, ended with tiramisu and the ultimate ice cream sunday. I got fed up with being ripped off! This night all of our drinks were 50 cents more than the listed price and he took a tip out of our change! Grrr...
