Moving Reflections

People keep asking if I like our new house, but my answer is, "I don't know yet." I am irritated that everything doesn't have it's place yet, but so far I am enjoying it here.

What I miss about the old place is the LOCATION, it was next to the grocery store, very close to my jobs and a 5 minute, traffic-free drive to the train to drop off my hubby. I also miss the TOTAL PRIVACY...we had fitting curtains on ever window, so no one could spy on us.
What I don't miss is the fighting mother/daughter above us, the teenager's music beneath us, the 4 sets of stairs, the moldy wall, the ugly brown wall and always having to be quiet.

What I like here is the SPACE, only having 1 neighbour, living 2 minutes from one SIL and 5 from another...my little patio, the future dishwasher, wonderfully darkening shades and my beautifully painted room.

What I don't appreciate is the rooster, church bells, stairs in the house, no carpet, no curtains in office or bathroom, pourly designed kitchen and the nearness to the road.

About the move itself? It went well! I was exhausted, because I wanted to make it as easy for our helpers as possible, so I tried to do a lot beforehand. I feel bad asking people to take time on their day off to help, but hopefully it was not too bad for the guys. The hubby and I made at least 1 trip/day during the week to start the move. A BIG thank you to BIL 1 and BIL 2 who came and made a trip with only big things! Also a thanks to our aunt who came and helped me pack up the last minute things and unload a lot of junk...and thanks to my MIL who helped me unpack this week! Annnnnnd to the nice uncle, BIL 3 and friends who came on the big day and got the job done in about 4 hours!

It is strange...this is the first 'big, life change' that I haven't been emotional over...I think maybe because it's supposed to be a good change :) Ok, enough rambling...I should go unpack the ofice :P

  1. Glad the move went well! I'm sure you'll adjust in no time.

Funny, I've moved so much in my life, that I hardly count moving a "life change". This last one was, cause we were moving so far away, but if it's a move within a city, or 30-mile radius, it's just more a change of scenery to me! :) (I've moved 26 times in my 28 years.....)

  2. I wish I could be there to help you! Do you have lots of stairs to get to your place? And then stairs in it too? At least you'll get your exercise! :P You should do a walk through of your new home when you get a chance with a video camera. :)
