I just came across this article from a man's perspective of the trend. In his opinion it makes perfect sense and is much easier. Before he was criticized for wearing non-matching shoes, so he tried to change and only wear shoes the color of his shirt, but now he can wear all of his favorites again.
Have you tried out color blocking? I have a few times with mixed success. The one time when I wore a bright pink skirt and tank with an orange sweater, my husband asked, "Since when does that match?" So I had to inform him of what I was trying out. I felt very BRIGHT that day.
I followed the advice of a reader and wore a red belt with a purple sweater, but all I could think of was the red hatters. My SIL kind of looked at my funny when I walked in.
I liked the seafoam green top with a strawberry colored tank. It felt soda fountainsh.
What I really love are my red shoes. Unfortunately they cost less than 10 dollars, so they will probably have to be thrown out next year. I combine these with any shades of blue, denim, gray, black, you name it.
I also feel that I can pull off orange and blue. Now that I have an abundance of free time again, I should go make up some new outfits. I like blue and yellow, but I do not have much yellow, so I should go check out what I can up with. I got rid of a very bight yellow tshirt last year because I never wore it...

Too bad the red didn't work out too well. ;) I guess if you just aren't "feeling" the combination, it's better not to wear it! If you want try purple with pink instead of red. Just make sure the pink matches the tone of purple... like fuchsia pink with eggplant purple.
ReplyDeleteIf you still aren't sure about it, try color-blocking pastels first... they aren't so bold and noticeable.
I looove the yellow/navy combo!!
Oh...and orange and pink totally match!!!!
I think I have been doing this for years. :P I often wear brightish green with pink and some other random combos that I've been told are "rather brilliant, I never would have thought to put those together." :P
