I heard of Waterzooi a while ago. It is a typical dish from Gent (the capital of the province and 10 minutes from us). The reviews I heard were that it was boring and not worth trying.
Yesterday we made it in our cooking class and none of us were very excited, because even the Belgians in the class said the versions they had tried before were nothing exciting. We were PLEASANTLY surprised with how ours turned out! I had it again for lunch and found it delicious.
(the bottom 2 photos are not from the) Waterzooi is basically like a thin soup with chunks, but very tasty! We boiled chicken wings to make a boullion, then cooked the chicken in the boullion. The leek, carrots and onions had to be cut the size of matchsticks. I do not remember how we finished the liquid part, but we added the chicken and veggies, then topped it with fresh parsley

Mmmmm! It looks good. Good for you for taking a cooking class. Must be loads of fun to learn new things.
