Verona

Our hotel was in Verona, but we only checked out the city our last day. One of the main attractions of the city is the arena: The Verona Arena (Arena di Verona) is a Roman amphitheatre in Verona, Italy, which is internationally famous for the large-scale opera performances given there. It is one of the best preserved ancient structures of its kind.

The building itself was built in AD 30 on a site which was then beyond the city walls. The ludi (shows and games) staged there were so famous that spectators came from many other places, often far away, to witness them. The amphitheatre could host more than 30,000 spectators in ancient times.

It was kind of an 'off' day for me and mom, because she still was feeling quite sick from the day before and something happened to my right leg. It really was hurting. (It continued to hurt some each day until today-Sunday) We chose to not tour much more in the city also because of the heat. We had made a compromise the day before that the hubby would allow us girls a few hours at the mall, if we didn't shop in the city, so he dropped us and we ended up only buying our husbands pants! I was not impressed with the middle-class Italian styles. Maybe I was at the wrong place? But anything affordable was ugly!
Mopeds are the thing to have in Italy!

  1. Oh how fun! Verona :) Sounds dreamy. I got to go there but for some reason we never actually got to go "in" the arena. Hope your leg is back to normal working order :) I know I'm commenting late so I'm sure everything is good. Sounds like you've had a blast with her there.
