Yesterday we had the honor to meet the US ambassador to Belgium. Mr. Howard Gutman. AND his wife who declared Mateo as, 'her little friend.'
I remember watching something he said when he just came over. He wanted to visit as many cities as possible. Yesterday just so happened to be ours. The visit was planned last April, but it was cancelled because there was a possible shutdown.
I am glad it was postponed, then Mateo could come. Supposedly there are 8 US citizens in our city. Me, Mateo, my neighbor, a lady I met yesterday plus her 2 kids, and 2 unknown to me.
The reception was at our local castle. The castle is privately owned, so you can't go at any time in. Supposedly it is opened to the public at certain hours in the summer. I'll try to go.
It was kind of scary walking in, not knowing anyone, but we met some really friendly people. The mayor and his assistant and some lady who gets people involved in clubs.
After the photographer said he took photos of us and would mail them on a CD to us. Kind! I totally didn't think about dressing up. Thankfully I DID think of my red, white and blue *wink* Mateo was also in our beautiful flag colors, but wet through right before we had to go.
