My zucchini is doing great! We already ate 2 of them. It was delicious.
The dill was tasty.
The chives never came up
I think the parsley was overtaken by the SUPER radishes.
I don't even like radishes, but I though to just throw in a few seeds. My SIL thinned them out a few weeks later. When we got back from France they were a foot high. They kept on growing and I didn't pick any.
My land lady finally asked me "What kind of flowers are you growing?" I told (In Dutch!) and she didn't believe me. She thought I had planted turnips. I went upstairs and plucked one and lo-and-behold it was a radish. A normal size radish with 2 feet of leaves. Crazy, huh?
We thought it was pretty fibery. I once again was reminded that I don't like that spicy flavor, so I didn't eat any of my harvest. Finally I was forced to pull them out and give them to rabbits. They had about 3 feet of stems. They sucked up all that water and made the stems almost an inch thick.
No radishes next year.

Seeds Planted
We have a giant planter box outside our living room window. Before there was ivy in it, but when we were going in December, it caused a big problem (blocking pipes, leaking water, etc), so it was removed. Since then it has been empty, then ugly, brown dirt.
I am really not into gardening and I know next to nothing about plants. I wanted something EASY and it couldn't be 'the kind that come back' (See, I even forget what they are called). I was encouraged to plant some veggies, but initially the hubby said that was a stupid idea. No need to post the whole discussion here, because...
I was at the flower place and saw seed packets and thought that looked interested and EASY. I bought 4 packets and was given a 5th FREE. 2 months ago...
I will just say that I was wise to wait until the cold weather passed before I planted them *cough*cough*
Finally, I decided last Monday was THE day. Hup. I took my packets, tried to read the back of them, but got confused, so I sectioned my box in 4, dumped seeds in and stirred them around. I put the flowers along the front and forgot about them, so when I was stirring around the radish/lettuce/chive/dill seeds, I mixed in the flower seeds. Oops.
I figured that since I did a 5 minute job, most would die anyways. WELL, remember that unenthusiastic hubby? He came Friday, "Did you see your plants?!?" I hadn't even taken a peek at them, I figured they'd just die. I was shocked, tons of little bits of green. Since then I have tried to make sure they get some water every day and I am tickled pink with the progress. As you can see, I am (hopefully) gonna have tons of radishes.
My free packet was sunflower seeds, but I didn't dare plant that in the planter box, so I put them in 2 pots on my balcony. Once again I was shocked at their progress. No joke, they grew almost an inch yesterday. The one's 'head' was just peaking out in the morning with the shell on it and by evening it was an inch taller with the seed shell in the pot. Same story today.
I admit it here...I had extra seeds, but no more pots, so I threw the extra seeds off the balcony into the wild area behind the neighboring bus stop...but...they didn't seem to make it so far. I was in the mindset that everything would die, so I didn't go pick them up. If they grow, they'll be in the middle of the gravel driveway.

Can you see the 3rd one popping out? |
The one with the shell on its head has grown that much TODAY. |
