Valentine's 2015

Breakfast in bed is hard with little tikes. INstead we had a nice breaky together.

Forget chocolate and candies this year. We need to work on losing some weight, so people will stop thinking I'm pregnant.

15 months today

Duplo Valentine
The pictures are of our day so far. Right now hubby took the little man ice skating and to a dolfin show. I'm sure he's having a blast! I'm supposed to be enjoying my carefree afternoon...going to put dear daughter in bed, then I'm going to read and nap. What more could I ask for?

Thanksgiving 2014

So this was saved as a draft...I guess it's time to post now that it's 2015!  Happy New Year, btw.

Besties! I figured it would be easier if Mateo had a friend while I was trying to prepare.

It was a great Thanksgiving! We celebrated with friends from the Netherlands. He's an American, so he knew what this was all about. In addition to them we had hubby's brother, his wife and their 4 children.

We celebrated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to make things a bit easier.

I admit, I was a little nervous. Mainly for the turkey. I've never been responsible for it before. Here it is a task to even GET a turkey. You need to order it from a butcher a week (or more to be safe) before you need it. It will be a fresh turkey, so you pay more than in America.  Here frozen turkeys come to the stores for Christmas.

Mateo made the green bean casseroles.
Liora's birthday party was pretty stressful, so I learned from it and planned more ahead and did as much as I good the day before. I think all the food (apple cheesecakes, green bean casserole, pistaccio puff) was made on Friday. Saturday I put the turkey in and made some appetizers. Silly me started getting worried. I decided the turkey wouldn't be enough, so I put a chicken in the crockpot. TOTALLY not necessary! Good thing it was very cold that weekend. The leftovers were stored in the garage and we had the same meal for 4 days.

What else was on the menu? Our friends brought a lovely sweet potato dish and pumpkin pie. (I want more just thinking about it) My SIL brought enough mashed potatoes for 30 people. Oh, I guess I also had creamed corn and gravy, PLUS special cranberry sauce we didn't use last year. I think it was still good for another year!

The kids played quite nicely together and the 3/4 year olds went to bed, so we adults played Apples to Apples. Grand time had by all.

Christmas 2014

It was a lovely Christmas! My best one in Belgium so far. It was fun because Mateo was into it. He still didn't fully grasp the concept, because he kept saying he wanted to "go to Christmas." But I understand why it was confusing, because we had a few weeks earlier our family Christmas and then at school they had Christmas, but for me-and-my-house, we open gifts on the 25th, even though I've discovered most of Europe does it on the 24th.

My good friend, Ruth, visited and was such a help! We hosted Christmas Eve at our place. Couldn't done it without her.

Christmas Day was relaxed. I think Mateo slept really late. Like 10:00. Liora was up, but taking her first nap by the time he was downstairs. We ate breakfast casserole and then we had Mateo open his stocking. He was thrilled to finally get the toys he'd been pulling out for a month. We sent him upstairs with the cars and we ate some junk food and opened our stockings. Fun times with the selfie stick.

I was wondering how long it would take Mateo to realize and finally he did, that all the presents were ready to be opened. Liora was then up and we slowly opened up all our gifts. Ruth brought a whole suitcase full of goodies! After the gifts it was, of course, time to eat again. Leftovers (apple cheesecake...). I insisted on having a family photo. We planned on going to the Brussels Christmas Market, but it was really windy, so we were dragging our feet. Liora was taking her 2nd nap, so we decided when she woke up we'd go. I had planned to eat raclette at night, so there was no rush.

However, we got a text from our friends in Brugge asking if we wanted to go there. Sure! Why not? It was very pleasant. First visited at their house a bit, then went into the city. I decided it was the first time I was ever outside on Christmas day! We are always inside and then have visitors or go somewhere to eat. It was a nice change. I also ate a delicious snack from the Christmas market. Since then I've made it myself. Calorie bomb!

We tried not to make the night too late because of the kiddos and hubby had to work. Oh, throughout the day we skyped various family members.

Boxing Day Ruth and I braved the city traffic, shopper, children, cold and we visited Gent. The Christmas market once again. PLUS it was the start of sales.

Roekenbosch 2014

There is an annual convention in the Netherlands. Always the week of November 1st.  This year we decided to go for the weekend. As our habit this year, a late decision. We booked at a bed & breakfast instead of in the main park where everyone stays. It worked out great for us. We were right by the service location and it was on a donkey farm, so Mateo loved that! Saturday I had his bestie come visit us there.
What he loved to do

Look at all the other ones watching...

You could pay to go on a donkey walk

Shopping with 3 kids is hard!

We Celebrated the 4th

The 4th of July has always been a favorite of mine. Like most Americans I know. We were home last year, but at a wedding instead of a BBQ.

Some holidays are ok to celebrate here (did I just say that?) and even Thanksgiving you can make believe that you are home, but the 4th? Not quite. No red, white and blue filling the stores, no BBQs, no fireworks...

BUT, I do love wearing the color combo, so every year I try to dress up and take a photo or something. This year was no exception! I had fun dressing the kids to attempt a photoshoot. Out of 100 photos, there are a few keepers. The best start to the holiday was skyping with my patriotic friend. She reminded me she had sent some window stickers, so I quickly dug them and my other decorations out and had it set up by the time Mateo woke up. He enjoyed it.

I had a festive feeling all day and though to make a red cake to use up my left over blue icing. Things were getting stressful around here and I was tired of mixing in dye, so it ended up a pink lemon coconut cake.

We visited a friend in the afternoon for her birthday and in the evening had visitors for the soccer game, all in all, it was a nice day.

2011 I went shopping in Brugge (while highly pregnant)
2012 My parents were here, I worked and Eva was born

Summer Vacation 2013

Finally I went through my TONS of photos of our 5 week trip to America. I narrowed them down to 300 something and I think my book has around 250. Enjoy!
